John Redwood Anderson & Eileen Bessie Anderson enquiry -
I am currently writing a biography of the English poet John Redwood Anderson (1883-1964) and wondered whether any Old Hymerians might have an recollections (or family memories) of him as a teacher at Hymers College, or of his wife, Eileen Bessie Anderson, who taught Art. John Redwood Anderson began his career at Hymers College in 1915 and retired in 1943. After his retirement he moved to Corwen in North Wales, where he was in daily contact with the writer John Cowper Powys, who became a great friend and supporter. During his career, Anderson published twenty collections of poetry and, although he is now almost forgotten, was very highly regarded in literary circles, especially during the 1920s and 1930s.
Anderson's wife, Eileen Bessie Anderson began her career at Hymers College teaching Art in the Junior School but was quickly promoted and soon took responsibility for Art throughout the school. Her career at Hymers College lasted from 1917 until 1951. She was, it seems, a very gifted teacher as well as being a painter of great skill and originality.
Although there are some brief mentions of both of them in Hymers College: The First Hundred Years I am keen to find personal recollections of John Redwood and Eileen Anderson as teachers at Hymers and would be very grateful for any help your members may be able to offer.

Sporting Success? - Old Hymerian in need.
I'm hoping I can find any old Hymerians who have had a level of sporting success/sporting achievements.
I am an old Hymerian myself (1999 - 2006) and am now a phase leader at an inner city school in Sheffield. We have an awards evening on the 20th of April and we are looking for an inspirational sporting figure who would be able to come and speak to the pupils and present awards.

Old Hymerian help - Charity Expedition to Thailand, 12th August - 16th September.
I’m an Old Hymerian currently in my first year studying History at Durham University.
I’ve been selected to lead a DUCK (Durham University Charities’ Kommittee) charity expedition to Thailand this summer, lasting 4 weeks volunteering in wildlife preservation, animal rescue, rehabilitation and conservation. I’ll be volunteering with Globalteer in a wildlife and elephant sanctuary on the edge of the Thai rainforest and financially supporting the Burma Education Partnership’s work, training teachers for refugee camps on the Thai-Burma border.
My volunteering will not only consist of animal care and general sanctuary maintenance, but I am excited to also be able to participate in rescue and rehabilitation projects for numerous rare species as well as to be part of the sanctuaries’ drive to educate the local communities about the importance of habitat preservation. The expedition will then conclude with a fifth and final week of self-financed independent travel around Thailand.
As part of meeting my fundraising target of £2400 (£1400 expenses plus £1000 charitable donation), I am appealing to the wider Old Hymerians’ community for any contributions - whether financial donations, items or services for an auction or raffle, or even sponsorship. Any advice, tips or relevant knowledge would also be greatly appreciated!
