It is with regret that we have to advise of the death of an Old Hymerian - Graham Watson, aged 95 - who was the Director of Music at the school between 1949 and 1976.

His funeral is to take place this Wednesday (16th September) at 11.00am at All Saints Church, North Ferriby.

Graham Watson was the music teacher throughout my stay at Hymers from 1957 to 1964. He drew me and many others into the Carol Concert and morning assembly choirs and light opera productions such as HMS Pinafore, Ruddigore and the yeomen of the Guard. His enthusiasm for music was undiminished by the many less musical pupils among us, and I particularly remember his encouragement of many shy pupils to join in. I note that he lived to a ripe old age, presumably with a lengthy and well-earned retirement.
